A few days after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket, the reports are coming that the star batter Virat Kohli is also considering calling off his red-ball career and has already informed the BCCI about this. As per the reports by the Indian Express, the 36-year-old is likely to retire from Test cricket ahead of the England tour but the Indian team management has requested him to reconsider his decision .

Notably, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has already announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7 via Instagram story. Rohit’s retirement has also raised questions among the fans on which player will lead Team India in England tour. Now, another senior Indian player Virat Kohli is also considering retirement from the longest format. Notably, both the players have already retired from the T20I format after India’s T20 World Cup victory in 2024.

Kohli has made up his mind: Reports

As per the reports, after Virat Kohli informed the BCCI about his retirement plans, the management asked him to reconsider the decision with a big Test series coming in England and his experience will be pivotal for India considering his experience. The Kohli is yet to revert back to BCCI’s request. Notably, Kohli isn’t looking in great touch in red-ball cricket from the last few months. He had an forgettable outing the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy where he could only amass 190 runs from five matches despite getting a hundred in the first match. He also played a Ranji match for Delhi after the tour but failed to play a big knock there as well.

 

“He has made up his mind and has informed the board that he is moving on from Test cricket. The BCCI has urged him to rethink as the crucial England tour is coming up. He is yet to revert on the request,” the sources said as quoted in Indian Express.
