The Indian cricketing calendar has come to a halt after the Shubman Gill-led side drew the five-match Test series against England by 2-2 margin last week with a thrilling win at The Oval in London. However, the Men in Blue were scheduled to travel to Bangladesh for a white-ball series consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is, it was pushed back to September 2026 amidst the ongoing political tensions in the neighbouring nation.

With the Asia Cup 2025 set to be the next major cricketing tournament for the Indian side, there have been a lot of questions on star cricketers and veterans of the game - Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. It is to be noted that after announcing retirement from T20Is after winning the World Cup in 2024, the duo put down curtains on their Test career in May, mid-way through the IPL 2025.

I’m not aware of this, can’t comment: Sourav Ganguly refrains from commenting on Rohit-Kohli’s future

While their cricketing action is now limited to ODIs and the IPL, there are reports of the duo putting an end to their international career after the ODI series against Australia, set to be played in October. With the reports hitting the roof, former India captain Sourav Ganguly was questioned around the same, to which he opted to refrain from commenting, not knowing of the situation. "I’m not aware of this, can’t comment on this,” Ganguly was quoted as saying during the AWL Agri Business Ltd Event.

However, the former Indian cricketer praised the two veterans for their remarkable achievements in white-ball cricket. “It’s difficult to say. Whoever does well will play. If they do well, they should continue. Kohli’s one-day record is phenomenal, even Rohit Sharma’s. Both of them are phenomenal in white-ball cricket,” he continued.

Earlier, a source from the team management was quoted as stating in a Dainik Jagran report, “Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma do not fit in our plans for the ODI World Cup 2027.” The same report had also claimed that the two wanted to be part of the England tour, but were informed by the selectors of not getting picked.
