Wayne Hennessey is a goalkeeper from Wales who last played for the Premier League club Nottingham Forest in the year 2022. Hennessey is Wales national team’s third most-capped player and its most capped goalkeeper, with over 100 caps. He was a crucial part of the Euro 2016 campaign in which they had managed to reach the semi-final. The Welsh international was also a part of the Euro 2020 squad and was also in the squad for the FIFA World Cup, which was the country’s first World Cup participation since the year 1958.
The 38-year-old Welsh goalkeeper has announced his retirement from professional football earlier today. He announced on his social media page that he has decided to quit football. In his post, he stated, “I have decided to bring my playing career to an end, I look back with gratitude and forward with optimism as I take the next steps on my footballing journey.” Hennessey also stated that it was a privilege to play in the Premier League and represent his beloved country more than a hundred times during his playing career.

Wayne Hennessey began his club career with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2006, followed by loan spells at Bristol City, Stockport County, and Yeovil Town. The Wales International then secured permanent moves to Crystal Palace, Burnley, and finally Nottingham Forest in 2022. Throughout his Premier League career, Hennessey made 187 appearances, and he managed to maintain 37 clean sheets.
Hennessey has won the Championship title with Wolves in the year 2008-2009 which helped them in order to get promoted to the Premier League. The Welsh international also holds a football record for nine consecutive clean sheets while on loan at Stockport County in the year 2007. Hennessey’s wonderful career lasted for almost two decades and now he has decided to take the next step in his footballing journey.
