Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer, who is known to be vocal of his opinions, recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to take a dig at the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who were handed their fourth straight defeat in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Coming into the match after three consecutive losses, CSK fell short by 18 runs to go down against the Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Tuesday, April 8.
Seeing them have a dismal season so far in the IPL 2025, Wasim Jaffer opined that CSK has been more concerned with preserving their net run-rate than actually winning the matches. He shared a meme on X, cheekily implying that net run-rate has been CSK’s only saving grace.
Wasim Jaffer takes hilarious jibe at CSK after 18-run defeat vs PBKS in IPL 2025
“When defeat looks certain so you try to save net run rate. Story of CSK so far. #PBKSvCSK #IPL 2025” Jaffer captioned the post. The caption was supported with a hilarious meme which drew a lot many laughs from fans.
Speaking of the match, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to put the score first on the board. On the back of Priyansh Arya’s 103, and crucial contribution from Shashank Singh (52*) and Marco Jansen (34*), they posted 219 runs on the board. They then defended the total, restricting CSK to 201 runs in the 20 overs.
With a win, PBKS retained their fourth spot in the points table, whereas CSK continued to reel at the ninth place in the IPL 2025 standings. The Shreyas Iyer-led side will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on Saturday, April 12, CSK will take on Kolkata Knight Riders on April 11.
