With the Toffees 1-0 up, courtesy of a Richarlison goal in the 46th minute, the Everton fan hid the ball to reduce the chance of a late equalizer in injury time from the Blues.

A video of the fan's gesture has surfaced on social media. The play later had to be resumed with a different ball.

The result will be a huge boost for Everton who are looking to avoid relegation and three points at the Goodison Park would be priceless at this stage.

"I am a very passionate person and it means the world to us to get the result today," Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford said while speaking to BBC Sport.

"Our character and team spirit drove us on today and with the fans behind us like they were, it was incredible. Now is about today, we will enjoy it but come next week we will be focused on the next games," he added.

The defeat has left Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel with no one else to blame but themselves. He said that their Blues have struggled to keep clean sheets and haven't been consistent with their best game.

As a result, Chelsea despite dominating possession and even having a better accuracy with their passes but on one stat which mattered the most, they had nothing to show against their name, in front of Everton's 1.
