The battle between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is on at the MCA Stadium in Pune. KKR have kept MI batters in check with regular wickets and it is looking really tough to score runs. MI lost their captain early in the innings as Umesh Yadav kept his red-hot form on. Dewald Brevis played a little cameo to help the five-time champions up their run rate a bit.

However, some smart glovework by Sam Billings behind the wicket sent Brevis back. Ishan Kishan also succumbed to the pressure and Tilak Varma walked out to bat. The southpaw had performed well for MI in their last match against Rajasthan Royals and thus Shreyas Iyer asked his best bowler to send him back early.

Umesh Yadav almost got him as well. In the 13th over of the innings, Yadav bowled a sharp bouncer to Varma which the batter tried to pull away. However, he could not time and the ball went up straight in the air. Two fielders, wicketkeeper Sam Billings and Ajinkya Rahane, were in the position to go for the catch. And they did. But Sam Billings with his gloves on could have been safe hands. But Rahane asked him to not go for it and went for it himself. The ploy did not work and the ball was eventually on the ground.

Rahane's drop costs big to KKR

This drop from Ajinkya Rahane cost his team big time as Varma made the most of the second life he got. The southpaw batter turned things around for his team with a brilliant knock of 38* (27). He also formed an 83-run stand with Suryakumar Yadav to power his team to a fighting total. Varma hit three fours and two sixes in his innings.
