British Tennis star Andy Murray was forced to leave the Canadian Open 2023 due to an abdominal strain. With the US Open in just over two weeks, the former British number seemed in great form and had advanced to the round of 16 in Canada. It is currently unknown if he will play at the Flushing Meadows.

After defeating Lorenzo Sonego and Max Purcell in the first and second rounds, the 36-year-old three-time Canadian Open champion was set to play Italian seventh seed Jannik Sinner in the Round of 16 fixture. Murray apologized to the fans later and said, “I feel like I’ve let you down. I have rarely been in this situation in my career, and I feel terrible. This might be my last time playing here as well. So to finish like this feels rubbish.”

He then thanked the crowd in Canada for their constant support throughout his career. The two-time Wimbledon winner said: “The fans have made this tournament special, whether it's in Toronto or Montreal, and I'm so sorry about tonight.”

Due to Murray's most recent injury, preparations for the year's next Grand Slam, which takes place at Flushing Meadows at the end of August, will be hampered. On Monday, August 28, the US Open gets underway in New York, where Carlos Alcaraz will defend his championship. Murray is not the only player who might miss the fourth Major in 2023 due to injury, as 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kygrios also made that announcement.
