Indian bowlers Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep Singh rattled the South African batting lineup in the first of the three-match T20I series on September 28 (Wednesday) at Greenfield International Stadium, in Thiruvananthapuram.
After Rohit Sharma invited the visitors to bat first, South Africa had a horrific start to their campaign as the side was soon reduced to 9-5 in 2.3 overs.
Chahar provided the first breakthrough to the host as he dismissed South African skipper Temba Bavuma (0 off 4) for a duck with an absolute unplayable inswinger.
The next was 23-year-old young prodigy Arshdeep Singh who knocked out the experienced batter Quinton de Kock. It was the second delivery of the second over when Singh bowled the full-length delivery which took an inside edge and deflected to dislodge the bails.
De Kock's disappointing expression was just a teaser of what was coming the visitors' way. The Proteas lost Rilee Rossouw and David Miller in the same over with Arshdeep on fire tonight.
The Indian pacer duo was not done yet as Deepak Chahar picked his second wicket in the game by dismissing right-handed batter Tristan Stubbs in the 3rd over to leave South Africa tattering with half the side back in the pavilion with not even a double-digit score on the board.
