In a recent clip on ESPN’s official X account, FC Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny can be seen joking about his Barcelona team-mates. The Polish shot-stopper had spent seven years at Italian giants Juventus before announcing his retirement in August 2024. However, in a surprising turn of events, Szczesny signed as a free agent for Barcelona in October 2024, returning back to professional football after announcing his retirement. Although he was on the bench for the Blaugrana for almost two months before receiving his debut under Hansi Flick, Szczesny has announced himself into the football scene like he was never gone.
In this recent ESPN clip, the reporter asked Szczesny about which of his Barcelona team-mates give him the most trouble during training sessions, to which he jokingly replied by taking the name of the top three Barcelona defenders; Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez and Araujo. He then went on to take a friendly dig at his Polish team-mate Robert Lewandowski by saying, “ We’ve got some good players but I’m not going to say Lewandowski because he will feel too good about it.”
Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo and..:Szczesny mentions the best Barcelona attackers he’s faced in training
He finally gave an answer to the reporter after all these jokes by saying, “Lamine Yamal, Pablo Torre and Dani Olmo.” referring to the high quality attacking players Barcelona have in their squad. The mention of Pablo Torre brought a lot of delightful reactions from fans in the comment sections as they talked about how this young player deserved more game time under Flick due to his sheer talent and quality, agreeing and praising Szczesny for recognizing the class of this youngster.
Szczesny himself has had a dream start to life at Barcelona since he made his debut. Out of the 16 games he has played for Barca, he has a 50% clean sheet record. Interestingly, ever since Szczesny made his debut for Barcelona in 2025, the club has not lost a single game across all competitions!
