After losing against co-hosts Australia on Monday at the  Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, the reigning Olympic winners, Canada women's team crashed out of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023. With their world cup exit, the North American side became the first Olympic champions to get knocked out of the Women's world cup group stages. However, the on-field rant by Canada defender Allysha Chapman targeted toward the match official made the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Despite entering the crucial game without their star striker Sam Kerr, who is yet to feature in the tournament, the Matildas managed to win the game and qualify for the knockout stages as Real Madrid winger Hayley Raso scored a first-half brace. Australia defeated Canada 4-0 on Monday in the FIFA World Cup group stage taking place jointly in Australia and New Zealand.

Australia's Raso stepped up in Kerr's absence, who is currently nursing a calf injury, and delivered for her team as she was a total menace at the wing for Canada. After the one-hour mark in the game when Australia were 3-0 up, Raso and Chapman collided on the sidelines as the Australian winger grabbed her thigh after being taken down by Chapman. On the other hand, the 34-year-old Canadian was heard making an X-rated rant against the referee, who called the foul in Australia's favour. Chapman told  French official Stephanie Frappart , " She f****** jumped into me you t***. "
