On Saturday, June 7, world number two Coco Gauff, 21, won the French Open title for the first-time in her career after defeating Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, the world number one, in a three-set final at Court Philippe Chatrier in Paris. The American was full of heart and determination in one of the finest matches of tennis in the 2025 season, getting the better of Aryna Sabalenka with the scoreline of 6-7 (7-5), 6-2, 6-4, to clinch the second Grand Slam title of her career, the first one being US Open nearly two years ago.
The first set in the French Open final needed more than an hour to separate the two players, with the 10th game lasting nearly 12 minutes, wherein Coco Gauff saved two set points before converting the fifth break point opportunity, to make a comeback against Aryna Sabalenka after the latter had a comfortable early lead. Ultimately, after both players traded breaks of serve, the tie-breaker began well for Gauff before Sabalenka found a way to clinch the first set.

Coco Gauff started to get into her own in the second set as it progressed further, taking an early 4-1 lead before she traded breaks of serve with Aryna Sabalenka before serving out the set 6-2. In the third and deciding set of the French Open final, Gauff stormed to a 3-1 lead before Sabalenka fought back to make it 3-3, and then, the American found a way to earn the opportunity to serve out the set, match, and championship at 5-3.
Although Sabalenka, 27, managed to save the first championship point, she couldn’t do it the second time of asking, to lose the match, and with that, Gauff won the French Open title to the cheers of the fans present at the Court Philippe Chatrier in Paris.

In the post-match chat, Coco Gauff was thankful to her team and parents first and foremost. She was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “I want to thank my team. You are always pushing me. I know sometimes I'm not easy to work with, but thank you for everything you do. I appreciate you guys. I also want to thank my parents - from washing my clothes to keeping me grounded you always believe in me. You guys are the reason I do this and inspire me more than anything.”
“I want to thank the crowd too. You really helped me today, you were cheering so hard and I don't know what I do to deserve so much love from the French crowd but Merci beaucoup,” said the American to the thousands in attendance inside the stadium.
