In the IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 30 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Dewald Brevis showcased his exceptional fielding skills with a stunning catch to dismiss Shashank Singh. The fielding exploits from the South African international dragged the match into the final over when CSK were defending 190-run total, but it wasn't enough as PBKS chase the runs down with four wickets in hand and two balls to spare.

During the 17th over of PBKS's chase, Shashank Singh attempted an aggressive shot off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling after collecting a couple of boundaries earlier. The ball soared towards the deep mid-wicket boundary, where Brevis, positioned strategically, sprinted forward and executed a perfectly timed catch by jumping over the boundary rope and hurling the ball outside before coming over the boundary rope again to secure the catch just inches above the ground. This remarkable effort not only sent Shashank back to the pavilion, but also reignited CSK's hopes in a tightly contested match.

Brevis's athleticism and commitment in the field were widely praised, with fans and commentators highlighting the catch as one of the standout moments of the game and also a possible contender for the best catch of the tournament. Such fielding brilliance underscores the importance of agility and presence of mind in the modern game.

Sixth win for PBKS takes them to second place in IPL 2025 points table

Talking about the match, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) posted a competitive total of 190 runs in 19.2 overs, thanks largely to a blistering 88 off 47 balls from Sam Curran and a steady 32 from Dewald Brevis. However, their momentum was disrupted by Yuzvendra Chahal’s stunning four-wicket over, which included a hat-trick and ended with impressive figures of 4/32 in four overs.

Chasing 191, Punjab Kings (PBKS) were powered by a superb 72 from Shreyas Iyer and a quickfire 54 by Prabhsimran Singh. Despite a few stumbles in the latter half of the innings, PBKS held their nerve to chase down the target in 19.4 overs with four wickets in hand. The win knocked CSK out of playoff contention and boosted PBKS’s position in the points table.
