England are taking on South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Jos Buttler-led side won the toss early in the match and invited the Proteas Men to bat first. However, with a brilliant performance from the bat from Heinrich Klaasen, the South Africa posted the highest ever total against England in ODIs, with their previous being in 2015 against New Zealand at the Oval.

While Reeza Hendricks scored 85 off 75-ball before being bowled by Adil Rashid, Rassie van der Dusen’s innings was also cut short as he was dismissed for 60 with stand-in skipper Aiden Markram adding crucial 42 off 44 during his stay in the middle. But the sole warrior standing strong and scoring a century was Heinrich Klaasen, who reached his 100 off 61 deliveries.

This knock and century of Klaasen also won accolades by fans present at the stadium. After being dismissed by Gus Atkinson, Klaasen on his way back to the pavilion received a round of applauds and a standing ovation from fans. The video of the same is now doing rounds on social media.

It is to be noted that Klaasen’s century is now the sixth fastest in the history of the ODI World Cup. Aiden Markram’ 49-ball century, which came against Sri Lanka is the fastest in the history of the tournament.  Additionally, apart from Markram, Kevin O’Brien, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers and Eoin Morgan are only player to have reached 100 faster than Klaasen in World Cup.
