A fire erupted at Islamabad’s Serena Hotel, where the Pakistan Super League (PSL) teams are residing currently. Noting the crisis, the hotel’s emergency protocols were instantly activated and the fire was rapidly subdued by the hotel’s emergency squad with the coordination of local fire services. The alacrity of the hotel staff and fire services didn’t claim any lives or property. As per sources, players from PSL teams were present at the time of the fire. It’s still yet to confirm which players were present at the venue but most likely, the squad members of Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars would have marked their presence as the opening game of the competition will be played between these two sides on April 11.
Defending champions Islamabad United will be hosting Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in the maiden contest. Before the crucial game, PSL fans will treat their eyes with the scintillating performances of prominent Pakistani artists in the opening ceremony. Ali Zafar, Abrar ul Haq, Natasha Baig, and Talha Anjum will be some of the names that will feature at the inaugural event.

The fierce competition of bat and ball is expected in the opening clash
In the opening match, PSL fans are expecting to witness the tough competition between Islamabad batters and Lahore bowlers. Islamabad have a mighty batting unit while Lahore have the formidable fast-bowling trio. Islamabad possesses the batting talents such as Colin Munro, Sahibzada Farhan, Matthew Short, Salman Ali Agha, Azam Khan and captain Shadab Khan.
Lahore will get the services of skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Jahndad Khan. Qalandars will chase their third title under Shaheen. In 2023, they became the only side in the league to win two consecutive trophies under Afridi’s leadership. The team’s ardent fans will expect the pacer to lead from the front this year.
