The Pakistan Super League 2023 kick started in Multan with the defending champions Lahore Qalandars locking horns against Multan Sultans at the Multan Cricket Ground on Monday (13 February). But ahead of the start of the tournament opener, there was a slight delay.

Ahead of the start of the match, one of the floodlights at the Multan Cricket Ground caught fire. The fire started to emerge during the opening ceremony of the eighth edition of the tournament. Due to this, the toss in match number 1 got delayed by half an hour.

The toss was postponed until the team extinguished the fire in the floodlights and bought the situation under control. However, no calamities were reported in this accident.

Talking about the match, Multan Sultans won the toss and opted to bowl first in the tournament opener. The defending champions in Lahore Qalandars posted 175/6 in their 20 overs quota on the back of a brilliant half-century by Fakhar Zaman (66). But skipper Mohammad Rizwan’s 50-ball 75 went in vain as the Qalandars bowlers restricted the Sultans to a total of 174. The defending champions thumped their authority in the tournament by winning the match by 1 run on Monday (13 February).
