Former Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie has accused the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of not clearing his dues despite months after his resignation. Back in April 2024, Gillespie became head coach of Pakistan’s Test team for two years. However, things didn’t go as per expectations and the 50-year-old was forced to resign from the post after six months of his stint. After relinquishing the position, Gillespie became PCB’s critics for handling his matter in an unprofessional way. He asserted that he is still awaiting some remuneration from the board.
However, in a recent development, PCB has denied the claims with a statement against the World Cup 2003 champion. The board in its remark said that the Aussie contravened the contract terms by not completing the mandatory four-month notice period. “The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach on the non-payment of his dues,” declared PCB in its statement. The PCB spokesperson also added, “The former head coach abruptly left his position without giving a four-month notice period, which was a clear breach of the contractual terms. The coaching contract explicitly mentioned a notice period applicable to both parties, and the coach was fully aware of it."
Waiting on some remuneration: Gillespie
Gillespie hit the headlines after giving an interview to a news outlet from Pakistan, in which he expressed his misery and said he is unhappy for not getting the remuneration for his stint as Pakistan’s coach in the longer format of the sport.
“Yeah, without going into the details, obviously still waiting on some remuneration from work that has been done. So just navigate through that in due course. Admittedly, that has been a little bit disappointing but look, hopefully that can get sorted sooner rather than later. So yeah, hopefully, that gets sorted as soon as possible,” said Gillespie in the chat with the Pakistani news channel.
Amidst these developments, PCB has invited applications for the position of the national side’s head coach on April 19. The board has set May 5 as the deadline for interested candidates to apply for the post. Pakistan’s next assignment will be in the West Indies at the end of July as the Men in Green will play three T20 Internationals (T20I) and three One-Day International (ODI).
