New Zealand’s Glenn Philips showed brilliant piece of athleticism to dismiss Pakistani skipper Mohammad Rizwan in the ongoing opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at National Bank Stadium in Karachi. As Pakistan were chasing a target of 321 runs against the Black Caps, Phillips took a flying catch to end Rizwan’s innings and give Pakistan a setback in the opening game of the tournament. 

During the last ball of the 10th over of Pakistan’s innings, Mohammad Rizwan attempted to play a cut shot against Will O’Rourke’s outside off delivery. However, as the Pakistani skipper played that shot, Glenn Phillips was ready at points and ended up diving to his left and taking an spectacular catch to dismiss Rizwan as Pakistan lost their second wicket at the score of 22 runs.

Talking about the match, New Zealand posted a big total of 320/5 in their 50 overs. For the Black Caps, Will Young scored 107(113) runs while Tom Latham remained unbeaten on 118*(104) runs along with Glenn Phillips giving touches by scoring 61(39) runs. For Pakistan, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah took two wickets each while Abrar Ahmed put one in his bag.

Chasing the winning target, Pakistan had a poor start as they lost their first wicket at the score of eight runs in 3.4 overs, with Saud Shakeel scoring just 8 runs. After a few overs, skipper Mohammad Rizwan also lost his wicket followed by the spectacular catch by Glenn Phillips. Rizwan got out after scoring just three runs as Pakistan were reduced to 22/2 after 10 overs.
