Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has slammed Delhi Capitals (DC) for their disheartening campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In the contest against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on May 21, Delhi were expected to display fighting spirit to keep themselves alive for the playoffs race. However, that didn’t happen as Capitals crumbled under pressure in the big game and surrendered on 121 while chasing the total of 180. DC’s batting attack failed to handle pressure and looked completely out of rhythm. This loss also eliminated Delhi from the playoffs contention.
Noting DC's another miserable season, Harbhajan didn’t hold himself back and said Delhi didn’t pick quality players at the IPL 2025 auction. “Mujhe lagta hai ki thoda sa dhyan dena chahye, focus karna chahye ki kaha chook hui hai. Auction mein apne woh khiladiyon ko aapne kyon nahi chuna middle-order mein itne badhiya-badhiya khiladi the aapke paas jo aap le sakte the. Jinke upar nazar nahi gayi wahan chook hui. Woh manna padega.”
He also added, “Mujhe lagta hai woh shopping achi nahi ki unhone. Woh wahan auction mein baithe the sabse zyada purse leke baithe huwe the wahan haath bhi bohot milaya yeh khiladi mil gaya jo chahye tha yeh bhi mil gaya jo chahye lekin mila kya phir learning. Going back to the same routine, agle saal aayenge seekh ke aayenge.”
DC will play for pride against Punjab Kings on May 24
Delhi will play their last game of the season against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on May 24. The Axar Patel-led team will look to trouble Kings, who will aim to conclude their league stage at the top two of the points table.
DC, who failed to cross the league round for four consecutive years, will deliver some moments of joy to their fans by winning their last game and ending their campaign on a positive note. Both Delhi and Punjab faced each other on May 8 in Dharamsala but the match couldn’t be completed due to the India-Pakistan military conflict. Records of that game weren’t counted.
