In a dramatic turn of events, history repeated itself in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 match between Ghana and Uruguay. While Ghana had missed the penalty against the same opposition in the 2010 edition of the marquee event, it was a similar outcome when Andre Ayew took the penalty kick in the early minutes of the first half.

While Uruguay had gone on to defeat Ghana in the penalty shootout in the previous instance, the penalty miss could once again haunt Ghana as they conceded shortly after with Giorgian de Arrascaeta finding the back of the net in the 26th minute and then again in the 32nd minute. Uruguay currently find themselves in the second qualifying position from Group H behind already-qualified Portugal.
