England and South Africa clashed in the final Super 12 game in Group 1 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021. All possibilities remained open for the selection and the elimination of either side in the semifinals when they come out to the field of play and the Proteas needed to win by a big margin to proceed to the semifinals on the Net Run Rate.

While South Africa indeed managed to stitch a win, they managed only a 10-run win which meant that their Net Run Rate remained third-best in the Group with the top two teams England and Australia progressing to the semis. However, in not the most pleasing incident, England's Jason Roy seemed to have suffered a major injury on his leg which may have ruled him out of at least the remainder of this tournament.

It happened before the second ball of the fifth over of the England batting innings when the English openers were going strong chasing 190 to win at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. While they had started off well, at this point in time Roy was on the ground and was not able to walk at all with what looked like an internal injury. Despite the physio treating the England opener, he was barely able to walk and was in so much pain that he broke down in tears.

As a result, Roy was forced to leave the field. However, later when South Africa registered a win over England thanks to a hat-trick from Kagiso Rabada, Roy made his way to the middle with a crutch for support but showed great heart in the way he congratulated his opponents who ended up winning the game but would not be part of the final four.

Meanwhile only Pakistan have sealed a place for themselves in the final four from Group 2. New Zealand, Afghanistan and India are still in with a chance but only the Kiwis are the masters of their own destiny and just need to get the two points with a win over Afghanistan.

In case of a New Zealand win, the match between India and Namibia on Monday will become a dead rubber.
