John Cena, the 16-time World Champion, spoke candidly about his fellow WWE superstar Edge in a recent interview. At one point, the 46-year-old Hollywood movie actor got teared up while talking about how good a human the Canadian professional wrestler really is. It’s been widely reported that John Cena and Edge, real name Adam Copeland, are best of friends away from the squared circle of World Wrestling Entertainment.

For the unversed, both these WWE superstars had a tremendous singles rivalry for the better part of the 2000s when they defeated each other for the World Championships. The biggest moment of them is considered to be the iconic Money in the Bank contract cash-in from Edge against John Cena to win his first-ever WWE Championship at New Year’s Revolution PPV on January 8, 2006.

In a candid interview with WWE, John Cena mentioned the love of Edge for sports entertainment and the fans. He said, “I really hope everyone watching knows just how gifted, caring, and amazing Adam is. He's just a... he's a good human being, he's a great human being, he loves sports entertainment. He's given so much to you guys, and I also think he's aware of what you've given him.”

When Edge retired in 2011 from professional wrestling, John Cena also had words of appreciation for his best friend. He was quoted as saying, “I am very proud of Edge for all that he has accomplished. He is certain to be in the Hall of Fame. I'm proud to have had so many great moments with him. He is a true wrestling purist and one of the smartest people I've had the pleasure of wrestling with. For your last match to be a championship win at WrestleMania (against Alberto Del Rio at WM 27), is a damn good finish to a helluva career.”

Meanwhile, in 2020, at the Royal Rumble PPV, Edge made his triumphant return to WWE, after a 9-year-long recovery from neck injury. A year later, he also won the Royal Rumble match to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania, which he lost in a triple threat match involving Daniel Bryan.
