Julian Alvarez scored a stunning free-kick during Atletico Madrid’s recent 4-1 victory over Real Betis on May 18, at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in the 37th match-day of LaLiga. The young Argentine opened the scoring for the hosts in the 10th minute after converting a beautifully struck free-kick against Betis goalkeeper Adrian. The freekick along with another goal later in the game takes Alvarez’s goal tally in the league to 17, while his overall goal tally is 29 in what has been a highly successful first season in the Spanish capital.
Alvarez moved to Atletico Madrid in August 2024 during the big summer haul Atletico made last year. In hunt for more playing minutes and a more primary role in the squad, Alvarez moved away from Manchester City and adapted very quickly to Diego Simeone’s system at Atletico. He spearheaded a deadly attacking unit alongside Alexander Sorloth and Antoine Greizmann, and has been instrumental to Atletico’s success in the current season.

Substitute Anotine Greizmann made an immediate impact by assisting Julian Alvarez’s second goal after being on the pitch for just 5 minutes. A 4th goal deep into injury time by Angel Correa sealed the victory for Atletico Madrid as they played their last home game for the 2025 season. In their final match of the 2025 LaLiga campaign, they will take on Girona at the Estadio Montilvi on 25th May.
