In the opening game of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 between England Champions and Pakistan Champions, played at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground, the latter’s wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal grabbed a lot of eyeballs when he missed a dismissal chance against Phil Mustard. Defending a target of 160, Pakistan got a fine start as they dismissed Alastair Cook in the fifth over of the match. In the next over, Shoaib Malik came to bowl his first over of the spell and he got success in hoodwinking Phil Mustard, who stepped out of the crease to play a big shot from his bat.
Akmal, who was keeping the wickets, got the opportunity to stump out the English batter but fumbled and missed the chance. The error from Akmal gave a lifeline to the southpaw, who stood in the middle until the 16th over of the innings and went on to play a 58-run innings off 51. However, Akmal’s mistake didn’t affect Pakistan negatively as they bagged a five-run win eventually.
Kamran Akmal gets trolled on social media for his wicketkeeping woe
Following Kamran's error in the match, netizen trolled the 43-year-old. They are digging old videos of Akmal’s playing days when he used to feature for Pakistan as a regular stumper. On social media, a clip is going viral in which the two frames are there. In the first one, Akmal can be seen missing a stumping chance against Sourav Ganguly while in the second one, Akmal’s latest stumping blunder against Mustard can be viewed. The video in which Ganguly features is of the 2005 One-Day International (ODI) series between India and Pakistan.
Comparing both videos, netizen are saying that nothing has changed in these years. An X user named Fayaz Mohmand wrote, “It's 2025 and kamran akmal is still missing stumpings After some years he will be our wicket keeping coach. He said some weeks before that Babar needs to retire from cricket And he is also ARY News top sports analyst.#LegendsLeagueCricket #SkyexchnetLLCMasters #LLCT20 #YahanSabBossHain.”
