FIFA World Cup 2022 winner Lionel Messi returned to his club Paris Saint-Germain's training on Wednesday after celebrating his World Cup triumph with friends and family, and received a guard of honour from his PSG teammates, staff member and training center staff.

Lionel Messi led Argentina to win their third FIFA World Cup title after defeating France 4-2 on penalties in the Final at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar. The record seven-time Ballon d'Or winner scored  seven goals and produced three assists in his seven appearances for Argentina in the World Cup to become the only footballer to win the Golden Ball twice in the FIFA World Cup history.

The 35-year-old Messi was given a guard of honor by his PSG teammates including Marco Verratti, Gianluigi Donnarumma among others, and support staff as he returned to training at the Parc des Princes and was also rewarded with a special trophy.

Messi ended his longtime dream to win the World Cup while his teammate Kylian Mbappe received the Golden Boot award as he scored eight goals in the tournament including a hattrick in the final.

Meanwhile, PSG have played two games after the World Cup as they defeated Strasbourg 2-1 on December 28 as Neymar Jr. was sent off in the 62nd minute while they lost 3-1 against RC Lens on Monday night at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
