Paris Saint Germain kicked off their 2022-23 season with a bang as they registered a 6-0 victory over Clermont Foot on Saturday. The monumental victory saw four different goal scorers including seven-time Ballon D'or winner Lionel Messi, who after a sub-par 2021-22 season, looked like his former self as he scored the last two goals of the Parisians.

He scored his first with a trademark Lionel Messi run through the midfield before a 1-2 with Neymar who set up an easy finish. Then at the 86th-minute mark, Leo Messi found the crown jewel of this stellar performance as he scored with a bicycle kick to seal off the 5-0 victory at the Stade Gabriel-Montpied. The Argentine chested the ball from Leandro Paredes and swirled mid-air and register the fifth goal for the defending champions.

PSG coach Christophe Galtier was pleased with the team's performance as talked about the team's attacking prowess. He said, "A lot of satisfaction, first and foremost with the win. Winning the game and scoring five goals is important, as is not conceding any chances and maintaining high levels throughout, even when the gaps were getting larger. I liked the way that the team expressed itself in attack, of course."

Galtier then praised his players for their dominant defence which was a problem last season. He said, "But also when the block needed to put in the team effort to win the ball back. There was a lot of effort put in for one and other, and putting in that effort for teammates is something that we are really insisting on a lot. I know that I have a very talented team with players who are very talented, but they need to play as a team, and that needs to happen over the whole of a match, and then throughout the season."
