Liverpool manager Arne Slot received a red card from referee Michael Oliver after he had some choice words for him while shaking his hand after the conclusion of a heated Merseyside derby at the Goodison Park. Everton managed to hold Premier League leaders to a 2-2 draw following a late equaliser from James Tarkowski, which was confirmed by VAR, sparking wild celebrations from their players in front of the away fans, and everything turned for the worse from there.

Abdoulaye Doucoure was the man who celebrated wildly in front of the Liverpool fans at the away end, which led to Curtis Jones taking offence to the situation, and then, the referee had to send both of them off the field after booking them for the second time in the game. The supporters also broke onto the pitch at the Goodison Park, which made the stewards and police get involved, to calm the situation down.

It was mayhem all game, it was a bit of an old-fashioned throwback: David Moyes

Following that, the incident involving Arne Slot and Michael Oliver led to the Liverpool manager getting a red card from the referee, while his assistant Sipke Hulshoff was on the receiving end of a sending off as well. With that, there was no formal press conference from Liverpool coaching staff in regards to assessing their team’s performance on a rough evening at the Goodison Park.

But, David Moyes, who is currently in the beginning stages of his second tenure as Everton manager, spoke for his players, and summarised the game against Liverpool in detail. He was quoted as saying, as per The Independent, “It was mayhem all game, it was a bit of an old-fashioned throwback. The bit after the game, I could tell you about it but the truth is, it’s not really what we should be talking about.”

“What I do know is Doucoure got a yellow that led to a red which I am disappointed with as we are short of players. The place was boiling hot all night, emotional, it was an incredible atmosphere inside the stadium,” he added.
