During the official ceremony for the Australia Cricket Awards 2025, Mitchell Marsh, the Australian T20I captain, hilariously referred to Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah as a “nightmare,” while narrating a story about his nephew. After getting unstuck against Bumrah in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series at home, Marsh was asked about missing out on a run-fest for his teammates in Sri Lanka, to which he responded with that.

Notably, the coveted Allan Border Medal winner from the last edition of the Australia Cricket Awards, Mitchell Marsh was dropped from the final Test match of the BGT in Sydney at the start of the new year in favour of Beau Webster, who made his debut in the longest format of the game in the contest. With poor returns in international cricket for the last couple of years, Mitchell Marsh lost the Allan Border Medal to his teammate Travis Head.

The host of the official ceremony of the Australia Cricket Awards 2025, affiliated to Grade Cricketer, asked Mitchell Marsh, “It must’ve been really nice to have a full summer facing Bumrah and then watch the boys go to Sri Lanka and score a million.” In response, he said, “Yeah look, if there’s one wicket I needed, it was probably that Galle wicket. Actually my little nephew Ted, he’s four years old, we played backyard cricket the other day. He came in with (Jasprit) Bumrah’s action, and the nightmare continued.”

Moreover, opening batter Travis Head won the Allan Border Medal after scoring 1399 runs in 29 matches in 2024, apart from being nominated for the ICC Test cricketer of the Year award. The Belinda Clark medal was won by all-rounder Annabel Sutherland for her splendid showing in women’s cricket in Australian colours over the past 12 months, and she is on her way to become one of the best players in the history of the game.
