Chennai Super Kings (CSK) stand-in skipper MS Dhoni was seen having a chat with his franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan, following the Yellow Army’s defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 30. With Chennai’s latest defeat, they have become the first side to be eliminated from the tournament. A week back, CSK CEO Viswanathan had shown faith in Dhoni’s leadership prowess to bounce back in the tournament but the 43-year-old couldn’t change the fortunes of the side.

However, following the game, Dhoni looked in a lively mood while communicating with Viswanathan. Earlier, in the match, Dhoni came to bat at number seven and scored 11 runs off four balls, with a four and a six. He fell against his former India teammate Yuzvendra Chahal, who went on to bag a hat-trick in the contest.

CSK will strive to avoid registering an embarrassing record to their profile

Chennai’s fans will expect them to play quality cricket in the remainder of the competition so that the five-time champions could avoid concluding their competition as the worst side of IPL 2025. CSK recorded their lowest performances in the 2020 and 2022 editions of the league. In both seasons, they ended in the ninth position on the table. It will be the third instance in IPL’s history when Super Kings participated in the league but couldn’t feature in the playoffs.

CSK’s upcoming games are against table-toppers Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Gujarat Titans (GT). At home, they will play only one match which will be against RR on May 12. This year, Chennai have played six contests in their backyard thus far but have got success in only one.
