The ‘Golden Boy’ of India, Neeraj Chopra qualified for the final of the World Athletics Championships after throwing his season best of 88.77m in the very first attempt on Friday, August 25. The 25-year-old Indian track and field athlete, who was put in Group A of the Qualifiers was sole to qualify in the very first attempt as even World No. 2, Germany’s Julian Weber missed by a margin with 82.39m in his first attempt.
The 25-year-old, who last seen in one of the Diamond League events was the sole to enter the finals, whereas compatriot DP Manu, who is also drafted in Group A of the Qualifiers failed to breach the qualifying mark on his first attempt. Manu, however, went for past 81m in his second attempt to come third in the leaderboard.
Additionally, 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott withdrew from the qualifying event just minutes ahead of the start.
