The FIFA World Cup 2022 has commenced its quarterfinals fixtures as Brazil squared off against Croatia to reach the semifinals in the competition. Brazil opened the scoring against Croatia in the FIFA World Cup 2022 quarterfinals as Neymar Jr. broke the deadlock and equalised legendary Pele's all-time top goal scoring record of 77 goals. 

However, Croatia forward Bruno Petkovic equalised in the second half of the extra time to force the game into penalties.

After producing multiple attacking threats against Croatia in the quarterfinals, Brazil got a much-deserved goal against the European side in the extra-time as Neymar Jr. scored the opener in the 106th minute into the game. Neymar Jr. played a first-touch pass with Rodrygo to collect the ball just outside the box and played a one-two with Lucas Paqueta, who produced a spectacular pass inside the box. Neymar smashed the ball into the back of the net after keeping the ball off the goalkeeper.

However, Croatia didn't hold back and earned the reward of their strong mentality as  Bruno Petkovic equalised the score in the 117th minute to force the game into the penalties.

In the end, Croatia defeated Brazil 4-2 in the penalties to claim their third straight victory in penalty shootout at the FIFA World Cup.
