Ojas Pravin Deotale , the 21-year-old archer from Nagpur, made history by becoming the new Archery World Champion on August 5, Saturday. He defeated the Polish opponent in a close men’s individual compound final to secure the gold medal in the World Archery Championships 2023 in Berlin, Germany.

In the process of becoming the world champion, the Indian registered a perfect score of 150 during the final. Ojas Pravin Deotale went on to defeat Lukasz Przybylski with a margin of 150-149 to register his name in the history books at such a young age.

Seconds after his triumphant achievement on the archery field, the new world champion from India had a pumped up embrace with his coach before succumbing to tears of joy on the camera. The official Twitter account of the World Archery shared the video of the moment, captioning it, “PERFECT WIN for Ojas Pravin Deotale. WORLD CHAMPION with a 150 complete score.’’

Sports Authority of India also congratulated Ojas Pravin Deotale for his crow n ing glory on the world stage of archery. They also mentioned that the 21-year-old became the first Indian male to win individual gold in the men’s compound event.

Earlier on August 5, Aditi Gopichand Swami became the first-ever individual Archery World Champion from India, winning the gold medal after defeating Andrea Becerra of Mexico by 149-147. Meanwhile, a day prior, the Indian women’s archery team, consisting of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur, and Aditi Gopichand Swami, attained the gold medal in the compound event against Mexico with a margin of 235-229. Overall, Team India secured its highest tally of medals in the World Archery Championships 2023 with three golds and one bronze.
