Para-athlete Nishad Kumar, who won a silver medal in the high jump event at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics on Sunday, broke down in tears upon his arrival in India. Nishad had made a jump of 2.06 m which had helped him bag a silver. In the event, he had also gone on to create an Asian record in the Paralympic Games in which the Indian contingent has already accumulated the country's best-ever tally with several other medals assured.

Nishad thanked the country for the love and affection that has been showered upon him ever since he bagged the bronze. He added that although he doesn't have the precise words to convey his feelings but said that the love from the country will continue to push him to bag more medals in world events and make the nation proud.

"Thank you India for the love & affection you have showered on me. I don’t have words to express what I feel but what I do know is that your love is the catalyst for me to move ahead with the goal to keep performing better and make India proud again #Paralympics @ParalympicIndia," he tweeted.

During the short clip, Nishad can be seen sharing a rather emotional moment with his mother. The two share a warm hug as they continue to shed tears of happiness after Nishad's grand welcome to India. The 22-year-old has been competing in para-athletics ever since he was eight years old. While most individuals tend to divert from their paths after an incident that takes away a child's normalcy, Nishad was pretty rigid about playing sports. He was determined to make a mark in parasports by the time he was ten years old.

He was just eight years old when he lost his right hand in a farm accident. Two years later, he had made his mind to make India and his family proud. Achievements like the silver medal at the Paralympics are a testimony to his determination and hard work and his breaking down in tears shows how much this medal means to him and his family.
