Quetta Gladiators ambassador Maya Ali looked furious after her team’s captain Saud Shakeel missed a catching chance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 contest against Karachi Kings, played on April 18, at the National Bank Stadium. The incident took place in the 19th over of the match bowled by Sean Abbott, when Mohammad Nabi played a shot in the air which went to the mid-off area, where Shakeel was deployed. Gladiators' skipper came under the ball but couldn’t hold it which helped the Afghan veteran to add 13 more runs through a couple of maximums against Mohammad Amir in the final over of Karachi’s innings.
In a viral video on social media, Maya can be seen in joy when Nabi lofts the ball in the air. However, her happiness withers when Shakeel drops the dolly. Following her captain’s error, she was seen fuming. Gladiators had a forgettable day on the field as Karachi outclassed them in all departments of the game and bagged a convincing 56-run win.
Gladiators’ lackluster batting show led them to their second defeat
Gladiators’ flop batting shows have cost them two games in a row. After the disappointing performance against Lahore Qalandars, Quetta batters looked out of rhythm against Karachi as well. This time, tailender Mohammad Amir stood as a lone warrior while chasing 176 in the game.
It was the pacer’s spunky innings of 30 off 16 that helped Quetta reduce Karchi’s victory margin. Talking about Gladiators’ key batters, all looked timid against Karachi’s disciplined bowling unit. Captain Shakeel scored unbeaten 33 runs but he also took 40 balls which corroborates he also got nervous after his team’s batting collapse. From Karachi, James Vince put up an incredible batting show of 70 off 47, which helped him get the player of the match (POTM) award.
