After a month's break due to the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, Serie A returned to action as AC Milan squared off against Salernitana on Wednesday at the Stadio Arechi. Milan forward Rafael Leao and midfielder Sandro Tonali scored a goal each in a space of five minutes to help their team take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.

Rafael Leao scored in the first 10 minutes of the game after midfielder Sandro Tonali produced a beautiful throughball for the Portuguese forward, who was quicker than the Salernitana goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa. The 37-year-old Mexican rushed out of his box and quick-feet Leao took the ball around him to score the opener.

Five minutes later, the 23-year-old Leao made a beautiful run from the right flank and produced a low cross for Olivier Giroud but the ball was blocked by the defender and found Tonali just outside the box. The 22-year-old Italian's initial effort was blocked by Ochoa but Brahim Diaz kept the attack alive and assisted Tonali, who scored a beautiful low shot in the bottom corner.

With the goals from Rafael Leao and Sandro Tonali in the first 15 minutes, AC Milan managed a two-goal lead over the hosts till the last 10 minutes into the game. 

Mexico legendary goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa made his debut in the Serie A on Wednesday against AC Milan after signing a contract with Salernitana on December 23, 2022 until June 30, 2023. Ochoa produced back-to-back clinical saves in the 81st minute to hold AC Milan on a two-goal lead.

In the 63rd minute, Salernitana substitued midfielder Tonny Vilhena with Federico Bonazzoli, who scored the only goal for his team in the 83rd minute. AC Milan defeated Salernitana 2-1 on Wednesday to narrow the first-placed Napoli's lead to  five points in the Serie A standings.
