Nitish Kumar Reddy turned out to be a star of the Indian batting lineup as he scored his maiden Test hundred during the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) against Australia. It was a special moment for Nitish and his family, who have worked hard to pursue his dream. Apart from that, it also turned out to be an emotional moment for former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, who was teary-eyed after Nitish Kumar completed his ton on day three of the Boxing Day Test.

Ravi Shastri was in the commentary panel with Irfan Pathan and Jatin Sapru when Nitish Kumar Reddy reached his hundred. In an angle from the commentary box, Irfan and Jatin were high on energy while commenting about Nitish’s hundred. Along with this, Shastri, who is known for his stoic nature, was also seen wiping his tears in the commentary panel.

Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar become saviours as India avoid follow-on

Talking about the match, the Indian middle-order collapsed after a good partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal (82 off 118) and Virat Kohli (36 off 86). The visitors were reduced to 221/7 in reply to Australia’s 474 , finding themselves again on the verge of the follow-on. After that, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar took charge of the innings as the duo put up a partnership of 127  runs for the eight wicket, to bring India out of that predicament.

Washington Sundar got out after scoring a well-made 50 runs off 162 balls hitting just one boundary. On the other hand, Nitish Kumar Reddy remained unbeaten on 105 runs off 176 balls with 10 fours and a maximum. Nitish is still at the crease along with Mohammed Siraj as India reached 358/9 after the end of day three, trailing by 116 runs in the first innings, For Australia, skipper Pat Cummins and Scott Boland scalped three wickets each, while Nathan Lyon put two in his bag. The five-match series is currently levelled at 1-1.
