On Thursday, April 10, in a sudden turn of events, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season midway due to elbow fracture. A few hours after CSK head coach Stephen Fleming made the announcement in the press conference, also confirming MS Dhoni’s return as captain, the five-time IPL champions shared a video of Ruturaj Gaikwad, in which he was gutted to miss out on playing the remainder of IPL 2025.
After getting hit on the elbow on a Tushar Deshpande delivery during an IPL 2025 clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) late last month in Guwahati, Ruturaj Gaikwad continued playing for CSK in their next couple of matches against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) respectively. Following that, he went for scans, which revealed that his elbow has gotten fractured, and it can be said that the issue got aggravated during his last two appearances in the league.
The 46-second video of Ruturaj Gaikwad was posted late on Thursday night by CSK on their official X account, wherein the disappointment of missing out on at least nine matches in the IPL 2025 was clearly visible on his face. He said, “Hello everyone, Ruturaj this side. Really gutted to be missing future part of the IPL due to an unfortunate elbow injury. But, thank you for your support until now.”

“Yes, we have been struggling a while, you know now that a young wicketkeeper leading the team, hopefully, things will change. I am gonna be there with the team, really support them. Definitely would have loved to take this team out of this situation, but you know some things are not controllable. As I said, definitely looking forward to support the team from the dug-out and hopefully, we have a great season ahead. Thank you,” he added.
Moreover, the first match in-charge for MS Dhoni as CSK captain in the IPL 2025 will be against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
