Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad completed his 2nd IPL century as he smashed 108 against the Lucknow Super Giants. Playing at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai was asked to bat first and got off to a streaky start as they lost Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell cheaply.
But with Ravindra Jadeja in at four, Gaikwad took the game by the scruff of it to carry his side out of trouble and completed his 50 in the ninth over. Then after Jadeja's dismal at 16, Gaikwad went into overdrive and never looked back. He and Dube combined to post a 104-run stand and took the LSG bowlers to the cleaners.
Towards the end of this onslaught, Gaikwad reached the three-figure mark in 56 balls and remained not out at 108 at the end of the 20 overs. In this brilliant effort, Gaikwad struck 12 fours and three sixes.
On the back of this magnificent effort, Chennai Super Kings posted a 210-run total. Talking about this performance, Shivam Dube said, "Especially the support from the crowd is amazing. We love to play in Chennai. All grounds are like home grounds but this is what pushes me a little more."
"Rutu needed 1 over to recover after playing for a long time so I decided to take the bowler on. We have scored a lot of runs, we are 10-15 runs above par. We definitely need to bowl well but we have got 10 runs more. Enjoyed a lot when Rutu bats, his class is on a different level," he said.
