In a FA Cup classic, Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle stunned Premier League leader Liverpool 1-0 in the fourth round of the competition at the Home Park last evening. Ryan Hardie’s clinical penalty in the second half turned out to be the eventual difference-maker as Plymouth Argyle made their way into the fifth round of the FA Cup at the expense of Liverpool, and they will be looking to keep their march further into the competition.

Notably, for the fourth round FA Cup tie, Liverpool manager Arne Slot made a whopping 10 changes in the playing XI against Plymouth Argyle, and many experts stated that they took their Championship opponents lightly. It turned out to be the case as Ryan Hardie converted a penalty in the 52nd minute after Harvey Elliott had handled the ball inside the box, to give Plymouth Argyle the 1-0 lead, which they managed to hold on till the full-time whistle.

Conor Hazard denied Liverpool an equaliser in FA Cup fourth round tie

Ryan Hardie had the chance to make it 2-0 in favour of Plymouth Argyle, but his shot was turned onto the post with the legs by Liverpool goal-keeper Caoimhin Kelleher. The Premier League leaders came close on multiple occasions to equalise the contest in the second half of the FA Cup fourth round contest, but they were denied by opposition goal-keeper Conor Hazard.

In the post-match interview, when Plymouth Argyle manager Miron Muslic was asked about any preference as far as their fifth round FA Cup opponents are concerned, to which he replied, “I don’t care. Anyone here.” The interviewer then questioned him about whether a tie against Manchester United will interest him in any way, to which he answered, “They are more than welcome here.”

The draw for the fifth round of the FA Cup, which includes 16 teams, including names like Manchester United, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Brighton, Newcastle United, will be taking place on Monday evening.
