Star Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi etched his name in the history books as he picked four wickets in the opening over of the match on Friday, June 30. During a match between Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire in the ongoing Vitality Blast, pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi became the first bowler in the history of the sport to pick four wickets in the opening over.

 

Afridi, who is playing for Nottinghamshire in the ongoing edition of the T20 Blast, created a new world record by doing so. While he removed Warwickshire skipper and wicketkeeper-batter Alex Davies for a golden duck of the inning, he removed Chris Benjamin on the second ball of the over. However, Afridi missed a hat-trick but he took two more wickets as he dismissed Dan Mousley and Ed Barnad on the fifth and sixth delivery of the over respectively.

Talking about the match, Alex Davies-led Warwickshire had won the toss and invited the Nottinghamshire to bat first. The S. Mullaney-led side posted 168/10 in their 20 overs, courtesy a brilliant 73 off 42 knock from wicketkeeper-batter Tom Moores. The Warwickshire however stood firm in the middle during their inning as Robert Yates knock of 65 helped the side seal the match, winning by two wickets. Shaheen Shah Afridi, whose first over heroics went in vain, finished with the figures of 4-1-29-4.
