Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has blamed the Indian Army for the Pahalgam terror attack that took place on April 22, 2025. Following the brutal killing of 26 people in Kashmir’s town, relations between Asian neighbours India and Pakistan are witnessing a new low. Cricketing relations between both nations took a hit after the 2008 Mumbai attacks. With the latest gruesome incident in Kashmir, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took a stern step against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, urging the International Cricket Council (ICC) to not include both Asian rivals in the same group in upcoming multi-nation tournaments.
In the latest development, Afridi issued a statement against the Indian Army. The former Pakistan skipper put responsibility for the Pahalgam attack on the Indian Army and also called them inefficient and useless. “You have an 8,00,000-strong army in Kashmir, and this still happened. It means you are inefficient and useless if you can't provide security to the people," said Afridi in an interview with Samaa TV.
India’s media acts like Bollywood, says Shahid Afridi
Afridi has criticised Indian media for their coverage related to the Pahalgam terror attack. The former Pakistan all-rounder said he was befuddled to watch the Indian media acting like Bollywood and advised them to stop acting that way. “It's surprising that within an hour of the attack, their media turned into Bollywood. For God's sake, don't make everything Bollywood,” added Afridi.
Both India and Pakistan have played only one bilateral series against each other following the 26/11 Mumbai attack in 2008. Back in 2012, when Pakistan toured India for a six-match white-ball series, Afridi was a part of the Pakistan army’s T20I squad. In 2016 and 2023, Pakistan visited India for the T20 World Cup 2016 and World Cup 2023 respectively. Talking about India, they haven’t toured Pakistan after 2008, when the Men in Blue went to the sub-continent nation for the Asia Cup 2008.
