Shubman Gill led from the front with another ton as India crossed the 300-run mark on day 1 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. After a 147-run knock in the first Test, Gill went on to reach the triple figures again on the first day of the Test match as India are on the verge of getting a big score in the first innings.

Coming to bat first after losing the toss, India lost their first wicket in the form of KL Rahul (2 off 26) at the score of 15 runs. After that, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Karun Nair added 80 runs for the second wicket. Nair got out after scoring 31(50) runs hitting five boundaries. After Nair’s dismissal, Gill joined Jaiswal at the crease as the duo added another 66 runs for the third wicket. Jaiswal got out after scoring 87 runs off 113 balls hitting seven boundaries.

Shubman Gill reaches hundred in 199 balls

After Jaiswal’s dismissal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant put up a partnership of 47 runs for the fourth wicket before Pant got out after scoring 25 runs off 42 balls with one six and a four. After that, Gill took charge as he completed his fifty in 125 balls. He continued further along with Ravindra Jadeja and went on to score a hundred in back to back Test matches as he reached the triple figure mark in 199 balls on day one.

India are coming after losing the first Test and will be looking to win the ongoing match at Edgbaston to level the series by 1-1. On Day one, India got a good start with the help of knocks by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill and will be looking to get a big total on day 2.
