Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant will be seen serving Team India together in the upcoming five-match Test series in England. On May 22, both were seen competing against each other in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 contest played at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The match ended in Lucknow’s favour as they contained the hosts on 202/9 while defending a massive total of 235 runs. Mitchell Marsh’s batting heroics (117 off 64) pummelled the home side and the Australian became the player of the match (POTM).

Following the game, when players from both sides shook hands with one another, both captains Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant also had a brief engagement which grabbed a lot of eyeballs. In a clip going viral on social media, Pant can be seen saying something to Gill while shaking hands with each other; however, the 25-year-old seems to be not interested in listening to his senior Team India colleague. Both players will have to coordinate with each other to help India win the first Test series on English soil. There are several reports in the media that Shubman and Rishabh can be handed captaincy and vice-captaincy mantle respectively for Team India.

Rishabh Pant will be expected to shine with his bat in England Test series

Rishabh Pant, who has looked horrendous as LSG captain and batter in the ongoing T20 tournament, will have to showcase his batting mettle for India in the England Test series to be played from June 20 to August 4. Pant has failed to be among the runs consistently in competitive cricket for the last six months.

Before IPL 2025, he was seen in action against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, in which he could score only 255 runs in nine innings of five matches at an unimpressive average of 28.55. In the upcoming England tour, he will be expected to make solid contributions to the side as he has played a lot of Test cricket in English conditions. The southpaw has accumulated 556 runs in 17 innings of nine Tests in England.
