Talking about tennis matches, Denmark’s Holger Rune did what he was supposed to do as he registered a clinical 6-2, 6-2 win to put the host up 1-0 on Friday. But then, Nagal fought a one-set deficit to beat Holmgren 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 27 minutes to make it 1-1 at the end of day one.

In the first set, Nagal struggled as Holmgren made quick work of the Indian despite a few moments of brilliance. The Delhi-born tennis star soon got his back into the game and clawed back to a 5-2 lead in the second set. Then Nagal avoided a late rally by the Dane and won the set 6-3. He showcased similar composure and skill in the last set to clinch the match.

Celebrating this win, Nagal shared a tweet talking about how playing for India is always special. He tweeted, “Always a special feeling to wear the blue jersey and play for my country. A small step in a long journey ahead  We go again!”
