South Africa legendary batter Hashim Amla recently appeared in an interview with Star Sports and disclosed that his favourites were Steve Waugh, Brian Lara, and Jacques Kallis. Amla, who is currently a part of South Africa Champions in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, will be seen in action against India Champions on July 22, 2025. Amla also appeared for the Protea side against West Indies Champions on July 19. In the match, the ex-South Africa opener chipped in with 15 runs for his bat. A day ahead of the match against India, when Amla was enquired to give his current list, he ignored Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara.

However, he inducted India’s batting maestro, Virat Kohli, on his list. Besides Virat, the 42-year-old South African also took the names of his former teammate AB de Villiers and West Indies legendary opener Vivian Richards. "There are so many great players over the years. Growing up, my three favourite players were Brian Lara, Steve Waugh, and Jacques Kallis, being from South Africa. But now, I'd pick three other names-Virat Kohli in recent times, AB de Villiers, and one more from the old days, Sir Vivian Richards," said Amla in his interview.

Steve Harmison remembered Virat Kohli after India’s Lord’s defeat

Following India’s loss at the iconic Lord’s, former England speedster Steve Harmison said if Virat Kohli was a member of India’s playing XI in the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, the visitors would’ve chased down the target and picked up a 2-1 lead. "For me, India has to start believing. This is where the likes of Virat Kohli were unbelievable. In a fourth innings chase, he goes and wins the game comfortably. He would have won that game comfortably at Lord's," remarked Harmison to ESPNcricinfo.

Virat Kohli brought an end to his 14-year Test career on May 12. Following his failure in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, he was under immense pressure for his miserable form. Eventually, he hung up his boots a month ahead of India’s crucial red-ball assignment in England.
