The Australian batters started the second Test against Sri Lanka on a difficult note but were soon rescued by the duo of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith, who each scored centuries. But every other batter perished cheaply as Usman Khawaja was the only batter to score over 30 runs.

Debutant Prabath Jayasuriya ran riot as he picked up six wickets and went to bowl 28 overs. Jayasuriya was unplayable and was even praised by Steve Smith as he gave the youngster a thumbs up after almost getting out caught behind. Smith was batting at 81 when the left-arm spinner delivered a sharp turning ball which almost took the outside edge.

Like Smith, Labuschagne also batted incredibly well, scoring 104 runs and after the day's play talked about how Smith and Usman Khawaja helped him face spin. He said, "Speaking to Steve out there and speaking to Uzzie [Usman Khawaja] - we were just talking about trusting our defence a bit more, being able to be a bit more selective rather than having to be as forward with our game as you were on the other wicket when the wicket is going so big and it's so inconsistent."

He also talked about feeling great after scoring a hundred. "It's nice to get that one off the back, the first one away from home and to contribute and put the team in a position like we did today was very nice," Labuschagne said.

Talking about the match, Australia were all out for 364, while Sri Lanka are now at 8/0 at Lunch on Day 1 of second Test between the two sides. Australia registered a dominating victory over the hosts, registering 10-wicket win in the first Test.
