This match marked the debut of Urbanrisers Hyderabad in the competition, and is being led by Mr. IPL, Suresh Raina, who is joined by New Zealand's Martin Guptill and the South African all-rounder Morne Morkel. Earlier, the SSS captain Aaron Finch won the toss and invited Suresh Raina-led side to bat first.

In the 12th over of their innings, Raina was batting alongside Stuart Binny, and during the third ball of the over, delivered by Hamid Hassan, the former India cricketer fell prey to a wrong judgement by the on-field umpire. Raina didn’t opt to review the judgement and walked off the p itch.
