South Africa scripted history following their success against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final played at the iconic Lord’s. Temba Bavuma broke into the record books as one of the most successful skippers for South Africa. He is now the only captain from his national team, along with Hansie Cronje, to win International Cricket Council (ICC) titles. In this sensational victory, Bavuma played a crucial role with his captaincy and batting. He led the team from the front and produced impactful innings of 36 and 66 respectively in the game.

Following South Africa’s victory, Bavuma was seen in a cheerful mood while holding the distinguished WTC mace. Holding his and his team’s valuable prize, he was seen holding it like a rocket launcher. Later, he can also be seen raising the mace when his teammates start celebrating the victory with champagne.

In South Africa’s notable success, Bavuma chipped in with 711 runs with two centuries and five fifties in 13 innings of eight matches. With these numbers, he ended up as the most-successful batter in South Africa’s magnificent campaign, along with David Bedingham, who scored the similar number of runs in 23 innings of 13 Tests.

Aiden Markram, who won the Player Of The Match (POTM) award in the WTC 2025 final, contributed 708 runs in 11 innings of 20 Tests. After 14 days of this remarkable success, South Africa will have to gear up for their WTC 2025-2027 cycle, which will start with the two-match red-ball series against Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club.

However, the Protea side’s biggest challenge is waiting in India, where they will have to contest against Shubman Gill’s team in a couple of Tests in November. South Africa’s last Test-series win in India came in 2000 under Hansie Cronje.
