The Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals started off with a bizarre catch which saw a massive collision leading to Royals bowlers Trent Boult completing a catch off his own bowling. After conceding a boundary, Boult sent out a swinging-length delivery to Wriddhiman Saha which led to a massive edge as the ball went high into the sky.
Under catch, three fielders - one from point, the wicket-keeper and one from mid-wicket - converged and went for the catch despite the keeper calling for it. As the three players collided, the ball bounced out of the rubble before Boult calmly took the catch.

After the catch, Rajasthan continued to make things difficult for the Titans and restricted them to a total of 177 in 20 overs. With the ball, Sandeep Sharma continued his purple patch as he picked up two wickets while giving away just 25 runs in his four overs.
Reacting to this bowling effort, the Purple cap holder Yuzvendra Chahal was elated and while speaking in the mid-innings interview expressed that his team did a great job, especially with a wet ball.
He said, "There's a lot of dew, it was tough to hold and grip the ball towards the end as the ball was wet. Last time, I won the purple cap, I am focussing on the trophy this year. Zampa bowled well in the last game and he had a good match-up against Miller. Holder is unwell and hence we picked Zampa. It's difficult to bowl at the death (for spinners). It's isn't easy to score if the boundary size if big and if there's some turn. This a very good batting wicket and dew is also a plus point for us. Hopefully, we will chase this."
