Captain Tom Latham also chipped in with a handy 30 off 26 balls to aid New Zealand’s cause of posting a good total. In his innings, Latham also played a glass-shattering shot. The New Zealand captain’s shot against Andy McBrine in the 19th over of the New Zealand innings.

On the first ball of the 19th over, McBrine bowled a full delivery on the middle stump to which Latham stepped out and took on. The Kiwi captain put on his dancing shoes and went with all timing and power to dispatch the ball over the long-on boundary. With some serious power on the shot, the ball travelled to the makeshift VIP boxes near the rope and also cracked the glass of one of those boxes.

Paul Stirling and Harry Tector’s efforts in vain

While it was a sigh of relief for New Zealand, Ireland players and fans were in disbelief. Despite centuries from Paul Stirling (120 of 103) and Harry Tector (108 of 106), Ireland could not finish over the line as Graham Hume missed the line bowled by Blair Tickner and went for a wild swing. With this win, New Zealand completed a clean sweep by 3-0 over Ireland in the ODI series.
