As IPL 2021 resumed on Sunday, fans finally got to see MS Dhoni for the first time on cricket field since the suspension of tournament earlier this season. The 40-year-old had looked in brilliant touch in the practice sessions and there was certainly a lot of anticipation among everyone to see him back in form. Unfortunately, the excitement did not last long in the first innings as the CSK skipper was dismissed after scoring only 3 runs off 5 deliveries.

However, it was not the end of match for MSD! After Chennai Super Kings posted a competitive total of 156/6 in 20 overs, it was down to the bowlers of Yellow Army. These are the kind of situations where MSD - the captain thrives on and his leadership magic and the same was on display once again in Dubai. He started off with an aggressive field set-up to put the pressure on MI batsmen and his tactics certainly reaped rewards.

MSD shows his captaincy masterclass against MI

The MI openers started to play some aggressive shots to release the pressure and this is where they were trapped. Quinton de Kock looked in good touch as he played some glorious shots in the first few overs. As Deepak Chahar came in to bowl the 3rd over of innings, the MI wicketkeeper welcomed him with another boundary.

However, CSK did not change their plans. Deepak Chahar followed up with another fullish-straight delivery. Quinton de Kock missed the ball completely as the ball struck the pads. CSK made a huge appeal for LBW but umpire Richard Illingworth adjudged it not out.

DRS - Dhoni Review System

As the CSK players were assembling in a huddle, Dhoni seemed to have signaled towards the umpire to take review. Although he did not look very confident, it was his style which caught everyone's attention as he did not even bother listening to other players before taking the decision.

As the players gathered in a huddle, MSD seemed to be explaining his teammates about his call with Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina listening to him. As the replays were shown on big screen, it confirmed that the ball pitched in line and was crashing onto the stumps. It was three reds which confirmed that the decision needed to be overturned.
